Street Painting on Seattle Channel tonight!

Hi Everyone!

I just got a call from Lowell Deo that our street painting project will be on Channel 21 at 7 pm tonight, Thursday (12/9)! I think I’ll need to watch it afterward on internet archives. I’m glad they’ll be airing it before the Seattle Channel shuts down…..

All best,

Pennie

Work Party in Ballard, this Sunday 10/10/10

Local Green Festival Goes Global for 2010

Seattle, WA On October 10, 2010 – or 10/10/10 – Sustainable Ballard will join 350.org for a Global Work Party that includes more than 7,000 events in 180 nations.

According to climate scientists, 350 is the upper limit of CO2 in parts per million that can be in our atmosphere to support healthy human life. Currently, our CO2 is closer to 390 and we are increasing this level of CO2 every year. 10/10/10 is a Global Day of Action with events designed to implement solutions to climate change and send politicians a clear message, “We are getting to work – what about you?”

The Sustainable Ballard event begins at 10AM with guest speakers Cecile Andrews, Mike O’Brien and Jenny Heins at Ballard Commons Park at NW 57th Street and 22nd Avenue NW. At 1 PM, community members are invited to join educational workshops and work parties in the park and throughout the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Workshop topics include bicycle maintenance, building worm bins and solar cookers. Work parties include restoring native habitat at Golden Gardens and building storm windows for Sunset Hill Community Association Clubhouse.

The day will conclude with music, food and celebration at Ballard Commons Park at 4:30PM. Work party registration and details are available at fest.sustainableballard.org.

Sustainable Ballard, a nonprofit and entirely volunteer-run organization, was formed in 2003 by a group of northwest Seattle neighbors. Its emphasis is on consuming locally produced goods and reducing dependence on foreign energy sources. Currently working with more than 25 different organizations, Sustainable Ballard presents workshops, lectures and public events inspiring, educating and engaging people to live more sustainable lifestyles.

350.org is a global organization that works to reduce carbon emissions, which impact global warming.

Street Painting rescheduled for Fri Oct 1, 3:30pm

This is an update for all of you itching to get your hands dirty or just waiting to cheer on some street painting action.

Unfortunately, the Street Painting Party at 80th and Stone Ave North got rained out this past Sunday. The outline of the design is on the street and ready to go.

FORTUNATELY, we are now officially rescheduled for this coming Friday Oct 1, starting at 3:30pm.

We will be painting and BBQing and hanging out in the street. Some food and beverages provided. Officially it is billed as a dessert potluck, but there will be hot dogs and other goodies as well.
Please join us. You can lend a hand, or just come by to say ‘hi’ and celebrate with us!

Tacoma Intersection Painting and Party

Hi All!

I’m forwarding this from Carolyn Hartt who has organized an intersection painting to bring together neighbors and help slow down traffic. Sorry about the lateness of this, but I thought it would be worth to still send to you.

“I’ve got the permit from the city to block and paint the intersection here, S 49th and Fawcett this Sunday the 26th of Sept. We will have the surrounding streets barricaded and the intersection blocked for the day, come and help uspaint the pavement during the afternoon.

After we finish, we’ll continue the party here at my house into the evening. My address is 426 S 49th Street, Tacoma. my telephone # is [masked]

Hope to see you all then!

Stone Ave Street Painting Party THIS Sunday, Spt 26

Passin it on.
see you in the street,
cheryl.
****************
Hi Neighbors!

Just as we move into fall, it’s time to add a splash of new color to our neighborhood by painting the street.

Painting Day is almost here, Sunday Spt 26th!

YES, to answer the most common question, we WILL be putting paint ON THE STREET, (Stone Ave N between 80th and 81st). Really. It’s called a mid-block painting. And it will be beautiful. Everyone can help. This is a kid and family friendly event. This will be fun and we will all enjoy the results over the months and years to come. And we will get to know each other just a little bit better.

Latest breaking news: There are even more swirls to paint!

More details: It runs from noon – 5pm on Sunday. We will be there beforehand to set up, and you can arrive early to help with that, too. Since this is a neighborhood party, there will be food, and you are encouraged to bring a dessert dish to share. Of course this is a get-your-hands-and-clothes-dirty event, so be prepared. Also on hand will be some information tables with ideas on ways to care for our water, locally and everywhere else.

Thanks to everyone who stepped up to get the word out and distribute flyers! You know who you are. Way to go! We will still need extra help on Painting Day itself to guide people, clean up and do other tasks. Would you consider taking on a task or portion of a task? Come willing to have fun while working together.

Feel free to spread the word!

Cheers,
Pennie O’Grady and the Stone Ave Street Painting Gang

Reboot

Sometimes it takes a couple of years for a seed to germinate… I am thankful for all the folks at the recent NW Permaculture Gathering at South Seattle college for renewing, reinspiring and recharging me.
